The last month I've been concentrating on completing the database work for the Vansant Road Cemetery (formerly Clinton Memory Gardens). I've not only created the databases and updated all of the records but with the help of another board member, Bob McCartney, we were able to photograph the entire cemetery and verify burial locations.
Once that was done I worked on the Find A Grave memorials for this cemetery. As much as possible all memorials were updated with grave location, dates (based on tombstones) and family links. As expected several duplication's were found as well as memorials created for people that were not buried in the cemetery. Corrections were requested and most appear to have been accepted. There were two Find A Grave volunteer's who were instrumental in helping me with this projects. Thanks to LaDon Brennan and Linda Everhart.
Because of this project no family history work or indexing has been done. My hope is to get back to that this coming weekend.

New family members found in my Cobb and Smith lines - Continuing Find A Grave research
This past week I continued my research using Find A Grave. It was a very fruitful week with several new leads and a few photos found. Find A Grave has again proved to be an invaluable source.
In the Cobb line I was able to confirm the birth and death dates for one set of GGrand Parents (Catherine Bird Means and William Burnston Means).
I also located the burial location (and birth / death dates) for several extended cousins.
For the Smith line I located the burial locations (including birth / death dates for this grand uncle and aunt and a first cousin.
This past week I also continued my arbitration of indexed records for Family Search. There is finally a project being worked for Missouri obituaries. So far this month I've submitted slightly more than 2,000 records.
I've been keeping up with sourcing my information in my Roots Magic database but I've not been updating my trees on Ancestry and Family Search. I've got quite a bit of work to do there. Plus I just looked at Ancestry and I now have 508 new un-reviewed hints (plus a lot of older ones as well).
I may need to consider stopping the arbitration and concentrate more on my research and updating various trees. Once the Missouri Obit project is completed I'll stop for awhile and try to get everything caught up again.

More Find A Grave research for the Varner line in Pennsylvania
Another hectic week has passed. Now that I'm caught up with the Vansant Road Cemetery records I have been able to spend some time in other areas. We did have a cemetery board of directors meeting this week and that went very well. Things are starting to turn around at the cemetery.
I did some indexing on Family Search. I was actually arbitrating the indexed Obituary's. Didn't do a lot just enough to keep fresh.
It has not been a real productive week for research. However, I was able to work some time in. I was working primarily in Find A Grave, I found memorial pages for nineteen family members. Four of which were new people that had to be added to the file. Within the memorials six of them had tombstone photos and four of them had enough information to lead me to the death certificates. I added two new surnames to the file (Bacon and Bell). The Bells are Sarah Varners family. They were mostly in the Juniata County, PA. The Bacons are through the Anna Varner Dunkel line. This family had skipped all over the country (mostly in Colorado, Montana and Missouri).

Working in Find A Grave
This past week I have spent my family history research time in Find A Grave.
I ran a report out of my Roots Magic system that showed all those with a death fact and no burial fact. Then I ran a report for all those with a burial fact which I exported to Excel where I then ran a comparison against a list of people with a Find A Grave source. After removing those that had a Find A Grave source I then combined the two lists. That gave me my work list for Find A Grave.
This weeks research time was spent searching Find A Grave for people on that list. I found memorial pages for 18 people and only 4 people searched with no pages found. Also most of the memorial pages had tombstone photos added. So far so good.
This next week I hope to spend more time on research and less on indexing. I really only spent one afternoon this past week on research. I did more indexing this week than I originally planned to do. Got caught up in the flow. Also, I now have my work process flow established and a good Evernote template as well as a source template setup in Roots Magic so that should speed up the process.

Summers coming to an end, hoping to get restarted on genealogy
It has been an exceedingly busy summer for me. I have spent a lot of time on non family history volunteer activities. However, these are activities I really enjoy and would recommend them to all who like genealogy. The major thing's I've been doing:
1. RECORD INDEXING - Even though I am not a Mormon (LDS) I do enjoy indexing records for Family Search. I've especially enjoyed working on the various obituary collections they are doing this year.
2. CEMETERY VOLUNTEER - A local cemetery, Clinton Memory Gardens, has been changed to a not for profit cemetery and renamed to Vansant Road Cemetery. I am currently serving as President of the board of directors. We have a lot of work to do at the cemetery. It was not in good shape. Lot's of grounds cleanup and record maintenance to do. This has been a very time consuming effort.
3. VACATION - My wife and I took her brothers ashes to Arlington National Cemetery for inurnment. This was combined with this years vacation. Spent some time in Virginia and the Carolina's.
I am currently wrapping up a couple of major projects that I've been working on for the cemetery. It is my hope that by early next week I will be able to restart my genealogy research again.
I've decided that once restarted I will focus on missing burial records. The first step will be to check all deceased against Find A Grave. My thinking is that if I can locate the burial place I will know where to search for obituaries and death certificates. Ancestry DNA results received and taking a break
It's been several weeks since I've written anything but I've not been completely idle. Just not spending much time on research at the moment.
About two weeks ago I received my Ancestry DNA results. The results seemed to confirm the research I have so far uncovered.
Europe 99% as follows:
Europe West 42%
In addition to the above Ancestry matched my DNA with others on Ancestry.com who have taken the DNA test. Two third cousins were identified and numerous fourth cousins. I have been in contact with one of the fourth cousin already and we are comparing our family trees trying to find the common ancestor we share.
I had mentioned in an earlier post that I had started Indexing on family search again. I enjoyed working on the 1940 census and some draft registrations but hadn't done anything for quite awhile. To make a long story short I started indexing the Obituary projects. Well I'm hooked again. Not only am I indexing records again but I've now became an arbitrator as well. I've spent almost all of my free time working on the German immigrant obituary project for the last several weeks.
I really need to make some time and contact some more of the cousins that showed up with my DNA match and I need to set aside some time for some researching as well.

Completed BONEY / BOONIE family of Pennsylvania Ancestry hints and Family Search Indexing
The last few weeks I have not spent much time working on the family history. I have become very interested in Family Searches new indexing project of US Obituaries, spending two or three hours each day on it. These are very confusing records. Not an easy indexing project but I am really enjoying it.
I was able to finish all of Ancestry's shaky leaves hints for the Boney / Boonie family. This family alone expanded my family tree by over 90 people. For the most part the family was exceptionally well documented.
The Boney/Boonie family is connected to the Varner family by Mary B Varner (1830 - 1911). Mary married Israel Boney (1820 - 1893) somewhere around 1847. I have not been able to find any sort of marriage document so this hypotheses is based on census, birth and burial records. Mary B Varner was the daughter of my Great granduncle John Peter Varner and Barbara Leckenton.
The Boney/Boonie family that I have studied have, for the most part, appeared to have stayed in the Juniata / Snyder County, Pennsylvania area. The only thing that I have done for this family is taken the shaky green leaf hints from my Ancestry Member Tree, verified them and updated my family tree. I have done no further research, so this represents only the low hanging fruit. I am sure there is much more to be learned for the family and I hope to one day be able to return to them and further document the family.

Boney / Boonie families of Snyder County, Pennsylvania
I have spent the last several weeks working on the Boney / Boonie families of Snyder County, Pennsylvania.
My first cousin (once removed) Mary B Varner married Israel Boney and they had thirteen children.
My Ancestry Member Tree hints jumped from around 390 to 570+ after adding this family. I have spent over three weeks trying to clear the hints on this family alone. I have added 52 people (Boney / Boonie) to my tree. After I clear the hints on immediate family I end up adding more people which in turn generates more new hints. I now have over 580+ hints to work through. At the rate I'm going this will take another month if not two. The Boney's have proven to be a very prolific family. Thankfully they have all (so far) pretty much stayed in the Snyder County, PA area.
Here is the family narrative report so far. Keep in mind this is a work in progress. Any change suggestions are most welcome. If the death date says BEFORE and just a year that indicates that I have not yet found the actual death information.

Roots Magic 6 and linking to Family Search Family Tree
It's been a good week of researching my Smith family. I will write more about this in a separate post. This week I've been faced with a data management issue.
I have an issue with merging data between Roots Magic and Family Search. I have used the "share" fact process on some of my census events. In effect, an individual fact is not created for everyone that a fact is shared with. It's more like creating a link to the one instance of the fact. In theory, this is an excellent approach. It saves a lot of data entry time and since there is one master instance of the fact, a change to that record reflects wherever the fact is shared.
The issue with this is that the "shared" facts are not available for merging to Family Search Family Tree. Obviously, that is a deal breaker for me. So I need to replace every shared fact in my database with a regular individual fact for that event. The problem is I can find no report to run that will show "shared" facts. Since it is not recognized as a fact as such, it will not appear if I run a fact list for an individual. I have found no way of identifying all of the people that have shared facts that need to be replaced.

Continue working on BRESHEARS, HENDERSON, HOSTETLER families
This past week I continued the research of my granduncle Francis Breshears, Jr. family. I was able to wrap up this family for the most part, still need to find one marriage record and one death / burial record.

Fine tuning my work process for Roots Magic, Ancestry member tree and Familysearch Family Tree
My work process has been slightly fine tuned and is now working fairly smoothly. The steps are as follows:
This is a rather involved process but it allow me to keep my three family trees all updated and pretty much in sync.
I do have to manually add my photos to both Ancestry and Familysearch which I have not done a lot of yet.
- On Ancestry.com work the "shaky leaf" hints. Prove out the hint prior to accepting.
- Add the hint to the person on my ancestry member tree.
- Download the record and save to my computer
- Create a source for the person / fact in my Roots Magic 6 program.
- Share the data between my Roots Magic database and my matched person on the Family Search Family Tree.
- If data or sources are available on Familysearch but not on Ancestry I will have them automatically update my Familysearch Family Tree record.
- Sync the updated record between FS Family Tree and Roots Magic.
- Manually update my Ancestry member tree.
This is a rather involved process but it allow me to keep my three family trees all updated and pretty much in sync.

Still working on my Breshears line - Juanita Fay Breshears (Hostetlers, Odenbaughs)
For the past week I've been working on my first cousin (once removed) Juanita Fay Breshears.
Fay was the daughter of Francis Marion and Cora Henderson Breshears. She married Rolland Hostetler around 1927 in California. I still need a marriage record to support this. They lived in California their entire lives.
Rolland and Fay had two children. Sharon and Duane Keith Hostetler.
Sharon married Leonard Odenbaugh in San Bernardino, California in 1956. They had two children Keith and Kelly.
I really enjoy working in the state of California. The available records on line is amazing. The California Birth and Death indexes are great. Between those and the SSDI and Find A Grave I was able to piece together a lot of information on this "lost side" of my family.
Due to the distance my immediate family was never really close to this family. Fay Breshears was a first cousin to my mother. Years ago Rolland, Fay and Duane use to come to our home in Missouri for summer vacation. They visited all of the Breshears relatives in the area while they were here. I remember they had a camper for their pickup that they traveled and stayed in.

Working on the Breshears - Marilla S Breshears and Henry S Henderson family of Fullerton, CA
The past few weeks I've been working on my Grandaunt Marilla "Rilla" Breshears Henderson and her family. I have discovered five new first cousins (once removed). Rilla was the daughter of my Great Grandfather Francis Marion Breshears. Rilla and her husband Henry moved from Missouri to California in around 1929. For that reason our families were never that close.
Again, Ancestry.com came to my rescue. The amount of information that I was able to find on Rilla, Henry and their five children was unbelievable. Using census records, birth, death and find a grave records I was able to trace their births in Missouri, move to California, deaths and burials.
The family as far as I can reconstruct it is as follows:
